What's In a Title?

I can't count how many times I've written or imagined a new story or plot, fleshed out characters so real in my mind they could be standing next to me, and built entire worlds, only to stand back, take one look at my project and think:

What do I call it?

I know this phenomenon extends to other authors as well.  Critique friends of mine often dub stories with pet names, all the time hoping and wishing the right title would just hit them.

Sometimes lightning strikes.

Sometimes we still aren't sure.

Our very own Sensei, Ali Cross, has found herself in this position.  She is getting ready to release the third book in her Desolation series, and needs your help.

How can you help, you might ask?

Head on over to the Escaping One Book @ A Time blog, by Tiffany Mahaffy.  There you can get a sneak peek of the rough cover for Ali's next book, and you can vote between three possible titles.  Here's your chance to have a say!  (There's prizes involved!)

And don't forget to leave a comment, and share a method you've found useful when it comes to naming your books.

  1. Sometimes a good title just hits me in the middle of writing. Other times, it doesn't come to me until I'm done writing it. No rhyme or reason!

  2. the warriors in my head fight it out for a good title. it's like throwing out ideas and waiting to see which one connects and makes me say..oh yeah, that's it!!
