Write Anywhere

Writers write. Anytime, anywhere.
It’s easier than ever to write wherever you go now. We have so many resources at our fingertips these days. No more excuses of “I don’t have the time!”
Bull! There is plenty of time.
What about that time standing in line waiting for your grande-moche-whatever? Or the time spent sitting in the doctors office? How about all that time on the bus? Or the time hiding from the kids in the bathroom?
There is plenty of time for us to jot down bits of writing if you have the right tools. Toting around a pen and pad wherever you go is one way, but I prefer to use my smartphone. It’s always with me, is small and easy to tuck in my pocket (though not recommended, because if you sit, you might crack the screen), and its simple to send the file to my computer when I get home so I don’t have to wast time typing it out again. There are hundreds of apps you can get. I highly suggest Dropbox or one that works with Google docs for fast and easy transfer times.
Not everyone has a smartphone, but if you do, put it to work on your manuscript. See how many words you can get out of that 15 minute break at work. See how much extra writing time you can make out of your day.
How do you get a little bit more writing time into your day? Where can you find those extra little moments to write?

  1. I love this! Because it is so, so true! I use the recorder function on my iPhone and am often leaving myself notes on my WIP that way. But even if I don't actually get out my phone, I often spend that time "book dreaming" in anticipation of when I get home and can sit down to write. It helps me keep my story fresh in my mind so there's no "down time" while I get back into the flow of my story.

    Thanks Amy!

  2. I use Microsoft Office on my Windows Phone. Everything gets added to the SkyDrive there and so I'm set=) I also use Evernote for blog posts.

    1. Oh!! And I do the same thing as Ali with the recorder app on my phone, if I don't think I'll remember it long enough to type it out.
