Make Time for a Retreat!

Naples, FL Sept 2011 Photo by Miranda Hardy
It's not always easy to make time for an escape...to get away and just spend a few days writing with zero distractions. Oh, but it's worth the sacrifices to do so.

A couple of weeks ago I took such a trip. I escaped to the west coast...Naples, FL with a writing friend. We stayed in one of her family member's condo for free and wrote our little hearts out for two days straight. It was fabulous.

Sure, we were tempted by the beach, which we did visit for an hour one day, but we eventually barricaded ourselves inside and wrote.

I slept well. I ate healthy. No headaches. No bellyaches. No stress...it revitalized my writing. It brought life back to my current WIP.

So, even if it's an escape for a day, four hours, take off from your house. Visit your library. Find a great tree to sit under. Just spend time rejuvenating yourself and your writing by getting away from your daily tasks.

  1. Hi, Miranda!
My family has owned a little condo on Jack Frost Mountain for about 6 years, and believe it or not, last spring was the first time I went up their alone for a writing retreat. It was wonderful. I did it again over the summer, and now that I've gotten over my timidity about driving up alone (finally) I hope to do it more often!

  3. So glad you took advantage of a getaway like this. That is awesome! I think it rejuvenates us in more ways than just writing.

  8. Maybe I should just go to Florida! And when you got back from your retreat, it wasn't just all about relaxation and peace. You came back with a TON of writing.

  9. I've discovered a great (but strange) place to do this is airplanes. I'm a captive audience, forced to read or write without worrying about housework or the lecture notes I need to take. It's made getting through security much easier to realize I'm about to have five hours of productive recharge time!
