Why I Watch Shows Made For Kids

Confession!

I'm a Original Disney Channel movie nut. I can't stop watching them, and it's not 'cause it's just what's on after Phineas and Ferb (though, that is how it started), but I am addicted to them. Same with those ABC Family movies, lol.

They are pretty much predictable, very cheesy writing, and some very unrealistic situations these kids go in. Lots of physical comedy, but there are a few dialog gems. Anyway, I watch them because they help so much with my writing.

Why if they are so bad? Well, I write YA, and sometimes find it hard to get a good grasp on what these kids talk about and how they say things. I watch their mannerisms, what comes so second nature, like checking their phone whenever there's an awkward pause, how they wear their backpacks, what's considered cool and nerdy. I swear, I just got out of high school, but heck, it is SO DIFFERENT than when I was there.

Plus, those High School Musical movies are totally fun, haha! Zac Efron is still a cutie.

Anyone else draw inspiration from guilty pleasures?

  1. I've never seen any of the High School Musical movies, but I've been told that I must! I do love, (LOVE) Phineas and Ferb, though. Dr. Doofinschmertz (spelling?) is hilarious! :)

  4. Phineas and Ferb rock. So glad my kids are into them. That's one of the few kids cartoons I really enjoy.

  5. I'm not really a Disney Channel-er, but I love PBS cartoons. Go Arthur! (Plus he promotes reading, I'm ALL about that!)
